Health for north east London

The Health for north east London programme aims to improve health services for local people. A public consultation was held between November 2009 and March 2010 to hear people’s views on our ideas for providing better healthcare.

Feedback received during and since the consultation helped clinicians to develop revised recommendations. These recommendations were further discussed with GPs, patient and public representatives and other stakeholders. The Joint Committees of Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) considered all the evidence and feedback at a meeting held in public on 15 December 2010. The joint committees approved the proposals subject to assurances set out by GPs and local stakeholders.

The Secretary of State for Health has given his support for the proposals to go ahead. This follows advice from the Independent Reconfiguration Panel which conducted an extensive review to consider whether the proposals were in the best interests of the local community. Changes will only take place once improvements across both Queen's and King George hospitals have been demonstrated.
